The royal manor was established on the southern end of Zirc, next to the Small Church (Kistemplom). The place is known for the fact that Andrew I of Hungary died in the manor in 1060. From here, he was transported to Tihany and buried in the crypt of the Tihany Abbey.
The ruins of the royal manor were defined by the excavation ditches of 1943; the discovered finds left the need for a complete excavation. In 1981-82, preparing for the 800th anniversary of the town’s founding, the contemporary chapel (church) was completely excavated from the ruins of the royal manor and, removed from the surface, the walls were reconstructed and conserved.
Based on the finds discovered during the excavation, the royal manor was established in the first half of the 11th century. The built environment around this notable place covers a narrow area. The royal manor can be visited all year round.
