Antal Reguly (1819, Zirc – 1858, Buda) linguist, ethnographer, cartographer and anthropologist... In brief, a polyhistor, who researched the genetic relationships of the Hungarian language and the homeland. The exhibition commemorates the unknown researcher: We have little data on Reguly’s private life; only his works and notes help us to find out about his personality. He is not only unknown for us, but was also to the people researched by him. Our exhibition also covers these relationships.. How Reguly recorded the unknown languages and how did he learned and studied the languages one after another. By the exhibition we enter the unknown world. Based on narratives of reindeer herders and fishermen, Reguly prepared the first map of the Northern Ural without any instrumental measurement. What was his objective? What kind of methods did he use? What are the benefits of his cartography work?

Following Reguly’s cognitive processes, the exhibition attempts to bring the Finno-Ugric languages and peoples closer to the visitor.

Viewing the exhibition itself offers the experience of a special journey into the world of the personality of a researcher with an unusual life path and the culture of related peoples.
