The firs rural natural science museum of Hungary, the Natural History Museum of Bakony Mountains was established in 1972, but its collections have centuries-old history. The scientific research programme called ‘The natural characteristics of Bakony’ has been going on with the participation of the museum’s interior and exterior staff since 1962. Its results, the geological, botanical and zoological materials collected during the past decades, are displayed in our permanent exhibition. Due to lack of space, we can only offer a mosaic picture of this diverse landscape of 4000 square kilometres running from Hévíz to the Móri ditch, from Pannonhalma to the shore of Lake Balaton.
