Zirc - a Bakony fővárosa

Bakony is one of the largest mountains displaying diverse forms. It runs 110 km long from the Tapolca Basin to the Vértes Mountains. Its forests are the green island of the untouched nature in the middle of Northern Transdanubia. Eplény is the settlement that lies on the drainage divide between the Zirc Basin and the Veszprém Upland.

The HM Verga Zrt. established the recreation forest on the eastern side of the settlement on a 229.4 hectares forest land. The highest peak of this area is the Ámos Mountain (525m). This forest land has a diverse composition of treee species. The most dominant species are beech, common and Austrian oak and hornbeam. There are sycamore, Norway maple, ash, wild cherry and larch trees. We can also find Robina, Scots pine, large- and small leaved.
Regarding its fauna, insects and songbirds are often seen. Among mammals, rodents (mouse and vole species, hedgehog, brown hare) and small carnivores (weasel, beech marten, fox) are characteristic. Patient and especially quiet visitors can meet roe deer, deer and wild boar. Protected animals are smooth snake and marsh tit.

The total length of the educational path is 7700 m and there are two rounds independent from each other with a length of 3590 m and 4180 m. The benches placed along the trail provide recreation and the resting places of the ski-run car park and sports field offer civilised leisure activities (e.g. barbecue).
From the Mt. Ámos lookout tower, visitors can enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape.
In the Malom Valley, a sports field with 10 stations was established.

The recreational forest is accessible by car, bus and train to Eplény and from there by foot.
