8420 Zirc, Kossuth Lajos u. 35.
The Baroque inn was built in 1723 and it is the oldest building of Zirc. This was the home of the Cistercian order, from where the re-settling and construction works were coordinated from 1726. The first chapel after the Ottoman reign in Hungary was established in this building. On the street front, there are two symmetric arched gates for the horse carts (carriages). The small ashlar of the abbey building was built in 1733. At that time, the monks left their temporary home, the building owned by the Cistercian Abbey was rent out and the tenants used it as an inn (also called Old Tavern). Riding through the Bakony, carters of lime, charcoal, firewood etc. rested here. They could tie the horses in a stable, the goods were under roof and the carters had accommodation and food. The building was nationalised in 1946. Today it is a privately owned protected monument.
