GPS coordinates: N47,21.130 E17,46.155

There is a nature reserve around the village of Fenyőfő. Countless natural assets of this forest are worth to see. The ancient pine forest with its unique beauty, residual character and its flora of highland and lowland mixture is one of Hungary’s highly protected areas since 1954. In 1799, Pál Kitaibel physician and botanist known around Europe, drawn attention to this amazing pine forest. The pine has retained its cold-tolerant highland and xerotherm lowland plants. There are Sedum, shiny bugseeds, small pasque flowers, Iris graminea and Iris variegata. Some of the protected beetles are the Chalcophora mariana, the Ergates faber and a rare butterfly species, the Perisoma sagittata. Thanks to its rich avifauna, we can see kinglet, coal tits or even hobbies. On the eastern edge of the ancient pine forest, next to the railway line stands the kopjafa (wooden column) of Pál Kitaibel.
